Q:Good afternoon, I have purchased health insurance from Insubuy in the past but reimbursements through Tokio Marine are very cumbersome and slow. Is there a better option for a non US citizen visiting the US on a tourist visa? I'm looking for $500,000 coverage with zero deductible. It would be for the state of Florida, I purchased insurance from Insubuy last year and it was with Seven Corners and United Healthcare. Never used it so I have no idea if Seven Corners is better than Tokio Marine.

A:
For a non -U.S. citizen in the United States the plan we recommend is one of the Patriot plans. Please see the link for the Patriot America Plus below. If you need additional assistance please feel free to contact our office. The plan does offer a $500,000 policy max and you can choose a zero deductible. The Patriot America Plus plan is administered by International Medical Group.

Q:I am planning to apply for one J1 (15 January- 2 November) and two J2(15 January-30 August) medical insurance (Atlas Essentials America). The university requires the attached form to be filled by you ( they told: please find the form that your insurance company must complete on their business letterhead). Please check the attached form and inform me if that is something you can do nor not.

A:
Please be advised that the Atlas Essential America plan will not meet the requirements on your school's waiver form. While the plan does meet the basic J1/J2 requirements, your school is stating the plan must have a pre-existing exclusion waiver of no more than 6 months. I have attached the link to another plan that offers a 6 month exclusion waiver option. The ExchangeGuard plan offers two options, the Exchange Guard Choice and ExchangeGuard Essential plans. The ExchangeGuard Choice option has the 6 months exclusion. Once you purchase, you will need to provide your policy certificate #, as well as the waiver form together. (You will need to fill out the personal information on the form yourself such as your name, date of birth, address, etc.). Then we can forward the form to be completed and signed.

Q:I am a J-1 VISA holder. I just graduated from Brigham Young University Hawaii, and I need to buy an insurance in order to do academic training in the school. I want to ask more about the price and detail of the insurance plan the company offers for J-1 VISA holder. I intend to buy the insurance for 6 months, starting with this month, and those are the requirements from the school: 1. Provide at least 880% coverage for all major medical services 2. Have an individual annual deductible of no more than $500 3. Have an annual plan limit of no less than $25,000 4. Include care and treatment in Hawaii Please let me know what my options are and how much are they.

A:
Based on the first paragraph it has to be a group medical plan provided by an employer, a spouse employer, or parent employer. The plans we offer would not qualify as a group medical plan. You would have to purchase the plan that your university offers in this case.

Q: I'm interested in your Patriot International plan. I've started filling out an application and just had a few questions . I'll be traveling to Scotland at the end of January, and will be there until the end of October. I'll be returning to the US for 1 week at the beginning of May. Will I be covered in the US for that week I'm in the States? Also, is there a copay or maximum for prescription medications? And can I get them filled in the UK? Lastly, the quote I received is that the total, or is that per month?

A:
The Patriot International plan has a benefit called Home Country Coverage. This benefit can cover an insured person in their home country for an incidental trip for up to 14 days, after 30 days of continuous coverage under the plan. The incidental trip cannot be to seek medical treatment. The plans for travel outside the U.S. , including Patriot International, cover new illnesses and new injuries that occur after the effective date of the policy. They do not cover preventative care, routine maintenance, or pre-existing conditions. If you currently take medications, they will not be covered under this plan, and any Dr. appointments that are in regards to a pre-existing condition, like for example to get a new prescription, would not be covered. These types of things would be out of pocket expenses for you. If you were to become ill for example with something new and need a prescription, after the deductible has been met (whichever deductible you choose), the plan would cover at 100% and cover up to a 90 day supply at a time. The quote is the total cost based on your age, the policy maximum you chose, the deductible chosen and the # of days you ran the quote for. If you ran the quote for the end of January until the end of October, that would be the total cost for that time period.

Q:Hi, I'm a doctoral student in Boston, MA. My wife is on F-2. My health insurance is taken care of by the university, but it would be quite expensive for me to also include my wife in that plan. So we are looking for less expensive alternatives. She is healthy, we only need something to cover accidental illness or injury. I heard some good words from some sources about Insubuy, saying that you know what you sell. So I wonder whether you would have some recommendations for us. Thank you very much!

A:
Does the university have any requirements for the F2 or just the F1? If there is no requirements that need to be met then you can purchase any plan from the F1/F2 visa insurance section of our website. We recommend the ExchangeGuard plan. Please keep in mind, these plans are not ACA compliant and do not cover pre-existing conditions, maternity, preventative care, or routine maintenance. Plans will cover any new illness or injury that occur after the effective date.

Q:Good Morning! I am from Texas A&M University. I am looking for an alternative health insurance plan, which is compliant with the university requirement but cheaper than the one provided by the university. Would you mind send me some information about your products?

A:
If those are the only requirements then any plan in the Student Insurance section of our website will meet them as long as you choose a $500,000 policy max. We would recommend the ExchangeGuard plan. Based on the requirements provided you would need to purchase the plan from the university to be able to meet their requirements. They state that the plan has to be PPACA compliant and plans available to purchase on the market are not.
