Q:I have my parents wanting to visit PA from the north of Ireland for approx 6 weeks and was wondering if you guys would sell insurance to cover them when they are here? They have pre existing conditions but have gotten all clear from the doctor to be able to travel. My dad is 73 & mom is 70. I would appreciate any information you could give.

A:
The plans available will cover any new accidents and new illness that occur after the effective date of the policy. The plans will not cover and pre-existing conditions, general routine doctors' visits, wellness checkups or medications as it related to pre-existing conditions. The plans will fall into 2 categories fixed plans and comprehensive plans. The fixed coverage plans will pay a fixed dollar amount leaving the insured individual responsible for majority of the medical cost if anything were to happen. With comprehensive plans which are typically recommended these will pay at a percentage so more responsibility will fall with the insurance company instead of out of the pocket of the proposed insured. Listed below are 2 plans (1 fixed, 1 comprehensive) for your review. (Fixed) Safe Travels for visitor to the USA (Comprehensive) Safe Travels USA Comprehensive If you have any additional questions about the plan please do not hesitate to contact our office.

Q:Regarding the Atlas Exchange plan, I didn't quite understand "As long as the reason for your doctors' visit is considered an eligible medical expense then the plan will pay 100% for the prescriptions once the deductible has been met" Can you please explain what did you mean by a deductible? As I understood if I choose 100% co-insurance then there will be no copay for in network doctor visits.

A:
That means if you visit the doctor and it's related to a pre-existing condition or any preventive care and the doctor prescribes some medicine, it will not be covered. But if you visit the doctor for a fever and it's a new medical condition and the doctor prescribes some medicine, that will be covered. Deductible is the amount you pay first before insurance pays anything. If you choose $0 deductible then you are not paying anything towards deductible.

Q:So if I choose 100% co-insurance (Atlas Exchange) I won't have to pay any percentage for a prescription drug?

A:
The Atlas Exchange plan does not have any pharmacies in network, so you will have to pay out of pocket for the prescriptions and then file a claim for reimbursement. As long as the reason for your doctors' visit is considered an eligible medical expense, then the plan will pay 100% for the prescriptions once the deductible has been met. This plan also includes a prescription discount card you may present at the time of purchase in order to obtain a discount on the purchase of your prescription.
