Q:I'm trying to find an insurance plan comparable to these guidelines: Deductible: None Covered Percentage: 100% of Preferred Allowance Office Visit Copay: $25 per visit Urgent Care Copay: $25 per visit Emergency Room Copay: $250 per visit (waived if admitted to hospital) Prescription Drugs: Paid at 65% per prescription (up to 31 day supply) Out of Pocket Maximum: $6,350 per person/$12,700 per family per policy year These are the benefits offered with an insurance plan through my student's school. They require something comparable in order to have outside coverage. Please let me know what options are available.

A:
Unfortunately, we are unable to use the benefits of your schools plan to recommend a plan for coverage. If you could provide a list of requirements such as a waiver or compliance form that will spell out the requirements needed in a plan, we can then send you plans according to those requirements. As soon as we receive this listing we will be more than happy to recommend a plan accordingly.

Q:My daughter is an international student from Korea and she is currently a freshman at Penn State University. Now she needs to enroll for the Fall semester and we are looking for possible health insurance for her during her stay in the States. I think your Patriot Exchange Program can be a great choice in terms of rates but could you please let me know if she is eligible for the program and whether it can be wavered from Penn State Health Insurance Program (SHIP)? I would appreciate very much if you can get back to me on this soonest. These waiver requirements are from the Penn State University website. International Student and Dependent Waiver Standards for the Student Health Insurance Plan Effective August 10, 2017 All requirements must be met for a waiver to be granted: 1. U.S. carrier or entity is approved to do business in the U.S. and compliant with all guidelines of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) 2. Carrier has a filed and approved health insurance policy with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Insurance or has a sponsored insurance plan that meets the waiver standards and is approved by the Student Health Insurance Office, together with a letter of financial guarantee directly from the plan sponsor 3. Coverage for 100% of preventive and contraceptive care (preventive examinations, immunizations and screening tests, as required by the PPACA and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for student health insurance plans) 4. Coverage for pre-existing conditions with no waiting period 5. Deductible no greater than $500; 6. Coverage for all essential benefits for accident and sickness, including prescription drug coverage, without limitation 7. Maternity Benefits (or Pregnancy) covered as any other illness or injury; 8. Inpatient and outpatient mental health/substance abuse as any other condition 9. No exclusions for injury or illness as a result of alcohol, drugs or attempted suicide 10. Worldwide coverage 11. $3,000 In-Network out-of-pocket maximum 12. $15,000/$30,000 Out-of-Network out-of-pocket maximum 13. OR U.S. employer sponsored health insurance in place of standards 1-12; 14. And Medical evacuation ($100,000/Repatriation ($50,000) minimum limits. Please Note: new waiver requirements for 2017-18 require all plans to be filed with the Pennsylvania Department of Insurance, or be approved by the Penn State Student Health Insurance Office and accompanied by a letter of financial guarantee for services not covered from the plan sponsor. This will eliminate short-term International Standards Organization (ISO) plans. In addition, Penn State students will no longer be eligible to purchase health insurance plans through Student Medicover, as part of a new agreement with United Healthcare Student Resources.

Q:Hi, I'm an Italian citizen currently living in New Zealand. On the 25th August I'll fly to the US with a tourist ESTA visa and I'd like to open an health insurance plan and I was considering few offers on your website. I was looking at 'Atlas America Insurance' and I have a couple of questions: 1) Am I cover even if I'm not an American citizen? 2) In case of an accident, is the transport to the hospital (through ambulance or helicopter) covered? 3) If I'll get hospitalized or I have to see a doctor, who is supposed to pay for the bill at that moment? Myself and then the insurance will refund the money later (after the deductible) or the payment will be hold (just showing the insurance number) until the insurance itself pay?

A:
Yes, the Atlas America Plan will cover you for your visit to the US. An Ambulance is covered as long as the covered illness or injury results in hospitalization. Direct billing will be decided by the provider. For example, if you go to an in-network doctor they could have you pay and file for reimbursement or they could bill the insurance for you. Hospitals generally bill the insurance directly. If you have additional questions please feel free to contact our office.
