Q:Hello, I'm currently in the US on L2 visa and have enrolled in the school, currently in my second semester. I have applied change of status to F1 visa. I'm not employed but a full time student. Would I still be able to purchase insurance from insubuy or do I have to wait until the Change of Status to F1 is complete. If student insurance is not possible, would I be able to purchase visitor insurance until my F1 is approved? I've been on my spouse insurance for the past 2+ years until she moved out of the US recently. The insurance provider was Cigna Global.

A:
As you have prior domestic insurance. You have to purchase domestic short term plan until you have an approved F1 visa. Once you are on F1 visa. You can purchase International Student insurance. If you have any insurance requirements from your school. Please send it to us in pdf attachment so that we can suggest appropriate plan that meet your school requirements.

Q:I am confused about pre-existing conditions and <70 conditions. My husband is 70 years old and previously had a heart attack, with stints inserted, in 2009. He does not take any meds for blood pressure as his b.p is naturally low. He does take a few other meds for tryglycerides. We would like to purchase travel insurance but need to have medical coverage as we are going to Ireland and our health insurance does not cover us in foreign countries. Also need trip cancellation.

A:
There is a plan that would work for you and your husband's travels to Ireland based upon the information that you have provided. The trip insurance plan Travel LX Insurance will cover the trip as well as include medical coverage for the travelers. The medical coverage will include coverage for the pre-existing conditions provided the coverage is purchased within 20 days of the initial trip deposit being made towards the trip. If you would provide the date that you made any payment towards the trip, as well as the cost of the trip for each individual, age, and if the final payment for the trip has been made and the travel dates. We would be more than happy to send you a quote for coverage. If you have made your trip deposit more than 20 days ago we can explore other options that may be available for coverage.

Q:It seems like some plans do not cover over 70 year olds and some do not cover WA state residents (any reason why)?

A:
The state of Washington had very specific insurance laws. Not all plans meet the rules and regulations set by the department of insurance for that state. There are plans available to those over the age of 70 just certain benefits would not be available to them, but the plans will state this in bold red print. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact our office.

Q:My parents recently moved to the US. They both got permanent visas to reside in the US, and should be getting actual green cards in the mail in a month or two. -- My father is 73 years old with pre-existing condition (stents in artery, takes blood pressure and cholesterol medications). -- My mother is 69 years old (but will turn 70 in a few months). Neither my mother or father currently has medical insurance although I am hoping that they will get Medicaid in a month. For the time being, do you offer any insurance plans for a month or two for both of them keeping their ages in mind and keeping my father's pre-existing condition in mind? I do not want to be financially responsible for them in case either suffers from a major medical emergency.

A:
There are plans available for new immigrants into the United States that will cover any new accident or new illness that happens after the effective date of the policy. Medicaid or any government funded forms of aids from per our understanding is not available to a green card holder without a waiting period, but you are welcome to do your research on eligibility for Medicaid. Meanwhile, in the interim period you can purchase a short term plan form our new immigrant section of our website for coverage. New Immigrant Insurance
