Q:Coverage of pre- existing conditions Hi! My father is a heart patient and had a bypass surgery about 9 yrs ago.He still takes medicines for lowering cholesterol and B.P. He will soon be visiting the US and is planning to purchase the Atlas America insurance in which pre- existing conditions are covered. Will his condition be covered ? Also if he ever claims for insurance will he have to produce his previous medical records in the US? Thanks

A:
Provided he is below the age of 70 years, Atlas America Insurance will cover an acute onset of pre-existing conditions up to $15,000. Acute onset of pre-existing conditions means something unforeseen emergency occuring out of the pre-existing conditions an all of sudden and you take the treatment within 24 hours. Depending upon what exactly happens, some of the conditions of your father may be the candidates for coverage under this clause. What prior medical records are required depend upon the case by case and it is difficult to give the general answer. I hope that answers your questions. If you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here or contact us at any time. Thanks for the reply. So should he be carrying all his medical records from india in case he needs to be seen by a doctor or file a claim. It is not mandatory to do so. However, it may be handy just in case he needs to produce some records.

Thank you and congratulations for your site. Jorge

A:
Patriot Platinum America is an excellent visitor health insurance. It provides the most amount of coverage. $250 is the most common deductible that people choose. You can purchase it online at Patriot Platinum America Insurance. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us at any time or post them here.

Q:How to ensure 100% coverage with Atlas America? Hi, I am considering purchasing Atlas America for my parents visit. The plan says that for In Network claims sent to Underwriters for review and paid directly to provider will be covered 100% otherwise there is a 20% coinsurance. I did check that most of the urgent care centers and hospitals in my area are covered under CMN or FirstHealth, but based on my previous experience with Patriot America (also FirstHealth), the urgent care center refused to accept it and I had to pay first, submit claim and get paid (which they did without any issues!). So if my parents visit an In Network urgent care and they do not accept the insurance and demand up front payment, would that mean that I would not receive 100% coverage but rather will have to pay 20% coinsurance? Is there any way to avoid the above and ensure that the In Network facilities will honor direct billing to First Health/CMN? 2nd Question for Mr. Narender, In 2008, I had gone for Patriot America based on your recommendation (and it worked fine except for the billing piece). I now see that Atlas America looks better with pre-existing condition coverage as well as 100% In Network coverage. Out of both of these would you recommend Atlas America for parents less than 70. I am looking to buy today so would appreciate a response. Thanks! Rajesh

A:
1. The best way would be to try to convince them that their names comes up in the provider directory because they are part of the PPO network. Therefore, they are obligated to take the insurance and bill directly. They can consider calling the phone number on the insurance card to confirm that they are indeed in network. Atlas America insurance has CMN, First Health and PHCS. Therefore, as long as they are part of any of that, you should be fine. 2. Both are excellent plans. Due to the features you described, Atlas America would be the most appropriate choice for you. I hope that answers your questions. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us at any time or post them here.

Q:50,000 or 100,000 / 250$ or 100$ or 0$ I am looking for buying Atlas America insurance for my mother (54 years). I am wondering if: 1. Any recommendation on coverage (50,000 or 100,000)? 2. Any recommendation on deductible (250 or 100 or 0) 3. Duration of her trip is unknown typically. Last time I took coverage in bulk for 6 months. She visited Dr for one small thing in 1st month, she left for India after 2 months and I didn't get any reimbursement for rest 4 months (that costed me 400$ unnecessarily). Should I buy month to month with timely renewals? This time I am hoping she will be here for 3-4 months. 4. Annual deductible "1 year" period starts from 1 Jan to 31 Dec? Or does it start from date you first start the insurance? Apart from Atlas America, any other strong recommendation. Thank You, Mukul

A:
Thank you for your interest in purchasing Atlas America Insurance. 1. $100,000 is much better, as you may go over $50,000 very easily if anything serious happens. 2. That is a personal choice. Some people think that even if have to go to Dr once, having a lower deductible is better. Others think that most likely nothing will happen, and if some small thing happens, you can take care of it youself and you want the insurance to take care of the big things. And you want to save premium now. Therefore, choose a higher deductible. Having said that, $250 is the most common deductible. 3. Please buy the insurance for the duration you are sure she will stay and then renew it. There is a $5 renewal fee but you can renew for the exact number of days you want. 4. The year starts from the first day of the insurance. Atlas America is the most popular choice. And I myself have purchased Atlas four times for my personal (or family) use in last one year. I hope that answers your questions. If you have any other questions, please feel free to post them here or contact us at any time.

Q:visitors insurance for visiting 74 year old parent Hello - I am looking to buy Comprehensive medical insurance coverage for my father due to arrive in the US in a few days. He is 74 and healthy without any significant chronic conditions, but I see that there really is no choice available - Patriot platinum America is the only option. Is this because of his age? I also see that it is from Sirius International. That name rings a bell because I was reading your and some other websites of people giving feedback on their experiences with visitors' insurance. I recall reading that this company is an international company, so they are not accountable to the medical coverage laws of the US, and therefore they can get away without paying in case of a claim (like several India-based companies do). Please advise me how true this is, and what your experience with this company has been. Do you actually involve yourself in assisting clients if they have difficulty with getting their claims covered? If so, how "fair" and reliable do you think Sirius International is? Hope to make a decision very soon, so request a prompt reply. Thanks,

A:
Thank you for your interest in purchasing visitors insurance for your parents. The choices available depend upon the age group and the policy maximum you choose. For 70+, for $100,000 in comprehensive coverage, Patriot Platinum America is the best choice. What you have understood is not completely true. The underwriter Sirius International is not involved at all in day to day handling of the claims. All of that is handled by the administrator IMG, that is located in Indianapolis, IN. We have been selling their insurance plans since 2002 and we currently sell thousands of policies for them every month and I don't see any problem as you describe. All legitimate claims are paid. IMG is regulated by department of insurance of Indiana, USA and also participates in Better Business Bureau. Of course, if at all fails, you can always file a lawsuit against them in the U.S. itself. None of those remedies are available to you if you buy the insurance from an Indian company. If you want to buy the insurance from a truly domestic company such as Blue Cross, Aetna etc., such companies do not provide insurance to visitors. You can read more about it at /visitors-medical-insurance/ Most people do not have any problems with the claims. However, if you have any difficulty, you can always contact us. We will be glad to help you as we work for you and not for any particular insurance company. I hope that answers your questions. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us at any time.
