Q:Hi. My wife has cancer and we have to leave the U.S. because of our E-2 visa. Is her treatment/chemotherapy covered in Germany? Regards, Paty

A:
Unfortunately, we don't have any insurance plan that would cover cancer treatment when someone already has it.

Q:If the J2 is not present in the country and has gone back to hme country for some work and has not been able to come back due to COVID 19, does he still needs to have insurance for the time he is not in country?

A:
The insurance for a J2 visa holder will not cover them within their home country and is designed to meet the basic requirements for the visa. If they are now located in their home country it would not be necessary to continue the insurance as it will not cover them there.

Q:My daughter, her fiancee and 6 month old baby plan to visit us in the US this summer during her maternity leave. They live/work in London so need insurance that covers COVID if they contract it while here. All 3 are healthy. She's a US citizen, her fiancee is from New Zealand (commonwealth) and the baby is UK citizen. What policy do you suggest?

A:
Majority of the plans for visitors are excluding coverage for COVID-19 as a majority have an exclusion in their certificate wording related to charges from a pandemic. Fortunately, there are a few plans on the market with no such exclusion. For those traveling to the United States as a visitor there is the Safe Travels USA Comprehensive plan and for US Citizens visiting the United States there is the Diplomat America plan. Both plans will cover new illness and injuries that manifest after the effective date of the plan including COVID-19. You may read more about COVID-19 visitor insurance here. You may view plans and get quotes in our Visitors to the USA section of the website.

Q:Total trip costs $3600 pp - $2000 is air fare and $1600 is hotels (pp) The hotels are refundable if cancelled 1 week before travel. Can we get, cancel for any reason, travel insurance for just the $2000 pp air fare, even though we will be paying $3600 pp to the travel agency?

A:
You would need to insure the total trip cost as you are unable to selectively cover one expense with trip insurance. Let us know if you have additional questions or need further assistance. You may reach us at (866) 467-8289 as well.

Q:My mother is 65 years old. She is planning to come to USA in July or August on a visitor visa. She lives in India currently. Will I be able to purchase insurance through insubuy for her? If she contract COVID after coming to USA, will insurance cover the treatment cost associated with it?

A:
The plans available on the market for visitors are meant to cover the new illnesses and injuries that manifest after the effective date of the policy. A majority of the plan have some sort of exclusion related to coverage for pandemics. The Safe Travels USA Comprehensive plan would have no such exclusion and is fine for someone traveling on a visitor visa. If COVID-19 were to manifest after the effective date of the policy it would be treated as any other eligible expense. You can read more about COVID-19 visitor insurance here.
