Q:Visitors Care coverage questions I am shopping for insurance for my parents who are visiting the US next month. Do I have to purchase insurance for both separately or is there a plan for couple. My dad is 66 years old and my mom is 56 years old.

A:
Thank you for your interest in purchasing medical insurance for your parents. Whether you buy insurance together for 2 persons, or whether you buy separately, total price is always the same because coverages are per person and prices are per person as well. When buying together, total price simply adds up. In fact, it is better buy 2 policies, one for each per person, just in case one person leaves early and you want to extend just for one person. Please let me know if you have any other questions. 1. Can I buy for 3 months and then extend. If so, will it be a renewal or a new policy? Is there a renewal fee? 2. If I buy for 6 months and say I don't use it for the last month, then is there a chance that I can get a refund? 3. I want the insurance to start from the 11th of August. However I don't plan to buy it until the end of this month. Will that be too late? In other words how long will it take to process? When will I get the ID card? 4. Will I get two separate ID cards for my mother and father? 1. Yes, you can. It will be renewal. There is $5 renewal fee. 2. Visitors Care: As long as you don't have any claims, you will get the refund for pro-rated duration minus $25 cancellation fee. Inbound USA: As long as you don't have any claims, you will get the refund for pro-rated duration minus $50 cancellation fee. 3. Insurance can start as early as the next day or any future date you specify. As soon as you make the purchase, you get virtual id card in the email. Actual id cards will be mailed to by next business day. 4. Yes. If you have any other questions, please let me know. I have one more question. My parents will stay for 5 months and 20 days. So can I buy insurance for just those 20 days or will that be calculated as an entire month. You can buy for 5 months 20 days and you will be charged exactly for that duration. This is just a continuation of the emails with questions regarding insurance for my parents who will be visiting the US. 1. My father is 66 years old and the Visitors care application asks for a copy of his visa which I don't have. I cannot apply for a waiver because he has no insurance back in India. What do I do in this situtaion? 2. Also, you had mentioned in your previous email that in visitor's care I have to pay the deductible once per policy period. However I did not see that information on the webpage. Why? 3. I also have a question about precertification. Say there is a minor illness like fever, should I call before the doctors visit. In other words can you explain in detail how this precertification works in non-emergency and emergency situations. 1. You don't have to provide any visa copy if you are applying online at /visitors-care-insurance/ That requirement is only for paper application. 2. Yes, it is mentioned. Please visit /visitors-care/visitor-medical-insurance/ Go to section for 'Medical Benefits'. Let's say you are looking at Plan B- $50,000. Just below the table, there is one line that mentions that. 3. You need pre-certification for things like hospitalization, surgery, major treatment, CT scan etc. You don't need for fever, doctor's visit etc. If you are not sure for something of middle complexity, it would be best to call the phone on the insurance card and ask. How many incidents are allowed or applicable in one policy period which allows payment of deductible only once??? In other words what is the definition of an incident in Visitors care? There is no limit on how many incidents are you allowed. Incident means either sickness or an accident.

Q:Protection America eligibility for 65+ Protection Plan applications says that for eligibility requirements refer to page 14 of form. (for 65 and older) Can you tell me where such a plan is kept?

A:
You can look at page 14 at /patriot-america-lite/medical-insurance/brochure.pdf The requirement is that for people over age 65, they have to either buy before arriving into US, buy maximum within 30 days of arrival or have current insurance, or have prior insurance that did not expire more than 30 days back. In other words, in order to buy Protection America (or any other IMG product), you can't be without insurance in this country for 30 days, if you are over 65. Even though it mentions about sending some paperwork on page 14, you don't have to do that if you are applying online at /patriot-america-lite/medical-insurance/

Q:Travel Insurance for Exchange Visitor I'm an Exchange Visitor, joining a US University this September for a one year program. I read your comments at www.insubuy.com/experience/view.html with great interest. It would be nice if you could tell me which company (and which plan) is the best for Exchange Visitor Medical Insurance . From your comments, I gather that it would be better to take coverage from a US insurer. But, some guys here in India are telling me to take coverage from an Indian insurer, as it would cover the journey till US also. Is there any merit on this argument?

A:
Please look at VisitUSA-HealthCare at /j1-visa-health-insurance/ It meets all the requirements of J1 visa. You can look at the brochure, get instant quotes and make instant purchase online. It is definitely better to buy from US company. The problem is that if you buy from India, most doctors or hospitals would not be willing to bill the insurance company directly and you may have to first pay yourself. Also, you will not get 1 year insurance from India as India allows only max. 6 months. I'm an Exchange Visitor, joining a US University this September for a one year program. I woul like to know if VisitUSA-HealthCare plan would cover me during a brief trip to Canada, in the midst of my stay in the USA. Yes, it would cover incidental trips up to 14 days to Canada and Mexico. You can make instant purchase of Visit USA-HealthCare at /visit-usa-insurance/

Q:IMG protection america VS IMG Visitors Care insurance Hello, when i look for insurance quote it gives me the options of Visitors Care IMG and Protection America IMG. whats the difference between these two and which one would be the best. Please answer me soon. I need to take insurance for my mom who is coming here on 5th. Thanks in advance

A:
IMG Protection America is a comprehensive coverage plan: /visitors-insurance-comprehensive-coverage-plans/ Let's say you buy $50,000 policy maximum with $250 deductible. If you get sick, first you pay $250 deductible once. Then insuance company will pay 80% for first $5,000 in eligible medical expenses. After $5,000, they will pay 100% up to policy maximum. IMG Visitors Care is a fixed coverage plan: /visitors-insurance-fixed-coverage-plans/ Let's say you buy $50,000 policy maximum with $75 deductible. If you get sick, first you pay $75 deductible once per policy period. Then insurance company will pay $50 for doctor's visit, $300 for emergency room visit, $3,000 for surgery and so forth. And you have to pay any difference beyond, no matter how high the difference may be. It is better to buy comprehensive coverage. Thank you very much for the clear clarification. one more question i would like to ask you. some of my friends told me InboundUSA insurance is also good.. I requested for an online quote for 6 months for my mother who is 49 years old and it gave the total premium as $231 with deductible of $75. Do you think that would be the good option ? which one do you suggest me to go either IMG or Inbound ? thank you very much in advance. Inbound USA is good as well. There are few differences between Inbound USA vs. Visitors Care. In Inbound USA, everything is per incident basis, while in Visitors Care, it is per period of coverage basis. e.g., in Inbound USA, you pay deductible of $75 per incident, while in Visitors Care, it is $75 per period of coverage. If you take $50,000 coverage, in Inbound USA, prescription drugs coverage is $100/incident, while it is $250 per period of coverage in Visitors Care. Please look at the brochures for both of these plans to look at more differences.
