Q:Hello, I am wondering if your plan meets UPenn's Insurance criteria for waiver. If the answer is yes to every question, I will be able to waive out of the Penn Insurance plan. Can you please let me know? What is the University's Insurance criteria for Academic Year 2018-2019? If you are covered under your own health insurance or that of your parents, you may maintain your coverage if it meets the following criteria: Your insurance plan must be provided by a company licensed to do business in the United States, with a U.S. claims payment office and a U.S. telephone number. The company must have a process to remit payments to providers within the U.S. Your insurance plan must provide coverage for pre-existing conditions, or have been in effect long enough that any waiting period has passed. Your insurance plan must offer an annual maximum benefit of at least $2,000,000. Your insurance plan must provide for both in-patient and out-patient mental health care in the Philadelphia area. A policy that provides only emergency or urgent mental health care services in this area does not meet this requirement. Your insurance plan must provide coverage for both in-patient and out-patient medical care in the Philadelphia area, including routine office visits, specialist office visits, diagnostic testing, imaging and physical therapy. A policy that provides only emergency or urgent medical care in this area does not meet this requirement. If you are insured with an out-of-area managed care plan (i.e. HMO or similar plan), you should be aware that most managed care plans do not cover any care outside of the plan network other than urgent and emergency services. Unless your insurance carrier provides you with a rider for out-of-area coverage in the Philadelphia area, your waiver will not be approved.

A:
Thank you for contacting Insubuy for your insurance needs. Unfortunately, the requirements state that the plan must provide coverage for pre-existing conditions. All of the plans available have at least a 6 month waiting period so will not meet the requirement. If they will accept a plan with a waiting period then we would have plans available. If you have additional questions please feel free to contact our office.

Q:I need insurance quotes for the below to cover the US. My wife, 34 years old, pregnant, Jordanian nationality, and my son, 3 years old, American.

A:
The plans that she is eligible for will not cover anything related to maternity. There is no plan on the market that will cover this. If your wife and children are coming for a visit you can still purchase a plan that will cover any new illness or injury that occurs after the effective date.

Q:I'm looking for a health insurance plan for new permanent resident coming to the US. The applicant has pre-existing condition for which he receives weekly dialysis. This plan is intended to provide temporary coverage till he can come to the US and get a comprehensive insurance plan. Is there anything available which fits his requirements?

A:
No short term plan available on the market will cover his pre-existing condition. Plans will cover any new illness or injury that occurs after the effective date. You would have to pay out of pocket until he is able to get long term domestic. He is eligible for the New Immigrant plans they just won't cover his dialysis.

Q:Hello, I am an exchange student from Germany and need a health insurance plan for my semester abroad at the University of Cincinnati. The restriction of the University is, that the insurance plan must be U.S. based and employed by a U.S. based claims administrator. Could you tell me if the ExchangeGuard Plan would fit these requirements. Many thanks in advance.

A:
Yes, that link does have the requirements listed and unfortunately you will have to purchase the plan from the university to be able to meet their requirements. They require an ACA compliant plan and the only way a student can purchase an ACA plan is to purchase the one offered from the university. If you have additional questions please feel free to contact our office.
