Q:MY FATHER HAD AN HEART SURGERY AND PLACED A STENT FEW YEARS BACK- HE IS FINE AND WENT FOR A MEDICAL CHECKUP BEFORE TRAVEL. NOW IF HE TRAVELS TO USA AND IF WE PURCHASE A COMPREHENSIVE COVERAGE - DOES HOSPITALIZATION OR ANY URGENT OR EMERGENCY CARE VISIT RELATED TO HEART ISSUES OR ANY OTHER REGULAR CHECKUP IF HE HAS A DISCOMFORT IN BREATHING. DOES IT COVERED UNDER A TRAVEL OR VISITOR INSURANCE IN USA OR IT GOES TO A PRE-EXISTING CONDITION AND INSURANCE DOESNT COVER THIS COST.

A:
A pre-existing condition is generally defined as any condition whether known or unknown that either exist in the body or occurs prior to the policy effective date. Many visitors insurance plans will have a lookback period of either 2 or 3 years. So if any condition existed in the body or occurred during the look back period it is defined as a pre-existing condition. Visitors Insurance plans are primarily designed to cover someone for new illnesses, injuries or accidents that either exist in the body or occur after the effective date. Many plans will include coverage for what is called an acute onset of pre-existing condition, and there is one plan called Visitors Protect that will include some coverage for pre-existing conditions. At the time of the incident, the claims department will make the determination on whether or not a condition is considered new, an acute onset, or pre-existing existing based on the medical records and attending physicians statement (doctors notes). If you'd like to learn more about the pre-existing condition coverage limitations in Visitors Protect or what could be considered an acute onset of pre-existing conditions, please use the links below to view helpful articles we have created. Q:Hello,I am an American citizen who has been living in China. I am traveling back to the USA with my Chinese wife for a period of 6 months. After 6 months we will leave the USA. I was wondering what kind of medical insurance you have for US citizens in my situation. Also is it possible to purchase a plan for my Chinese wife?

A:
You may purchase visitors insurance for you and your wife to cover your stay in the United States. Visitors Insurance is primarily designed to cover you anywhere outside of your home country, so if you are living in China and only visiting the US, then there are some options available. You may consider the Patriot America Plus or the Diplomat America plan. Since the country of citizenship for you and your wife differ you will need to complete a separate application for her. If you have any additional questions or would like to purchase over the phone, please contact our office at +1 (866) INSUBUY 467-8289.

Q:Do you accept payment in other currencies? Or is USD is the only option?

A:
The insurance premiums are always charged in US dollars. You may use any card to purchase insurance as long as it has a major bank logo such as an American Express, Visa, MasterCard, or Discover. Your financial institution will handle the currency conversion.

Q:For a visitor to the USA, if they purchase visitor insurance for 364 days, will they still be covered if they make multiple trips to the United States? Or is coverage no longer valid if they leave the USA? For example, coverage desired from July 2023 to July 2024 and the visitor will return home for a few weeks in December 2023 before returning to the USA in January 2024. Thank you!

A:
Most plans do offer Home Country Coverage. Each plan differs in the number of days it will offer and you can see those general rules under the Plan Benefits tab of a policy. The plan that offers the most number of days for a temporary visit back to your home country is the Atlas America plan. It will give you 30 days of home country coverage per 3 months of purchase. If you have any additional questions please let us know.
