Q:Good Day,I am writing to inquire about the eligibility criteria for maternity insurance for my wife, who is currently one month pregnant. She is not a U.S. citizen and is presently residing outside the USA.Could you please provide information on whether she is eligible to apply for maternity insurance coverage given her current circumstances? Additionally, if there are specific requirements or procedures for non-U.S. citizens, kindly guide us on the necessary steps to initiate the application process.Your prompt response and guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.Thank you for your attention.

A:
Unfortunately, there are no plans available for travelers that will cover for maternity or delivery related expenses if the person is already pregnant. However, some plans, like Atlas International, do offer coverage for the Complications of Pregnancy within the first 26 weeks. Complications of Pregnancy is defined as Illnesses whose diagnoses are distinct from Pregnancy, but are adversely affected by Pregnancy or caused by Pregnancy, and not associated with a normal Pregnancy. This includes: ectopic Pregnancy, spontaneous abortion, hyperemesis gravidarum, pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, missed abortion and conditions of comparable severity. If you have any additional questions please let us know.

Q:My parents live in the UK and traveling to Cancun for 8 days and then to the USA for 45 days. Both have history of preexisting condition (nothing acute) but looking for Medical insurance if some medical care is needed.

A:
Visitors Protect is the only plan that offers coverage for pre-existing conditions, but it still cannot be known, expected, or routine treatment. It has a 90 day minimum purchase and $1500 deductible built into the plan for anything relating to a pre-existing condition. It must be purchased before the insured has left their home country, and the sub-limited maximum amount of coverage that is available for pre-existing conditions is $25,000 ($50k, $100k, or $250k policy max available for expenses related to new injuries or illnesses). Other plans, like Atlas America or Patriot America Plus, do offer the Acute onset of pre-existing conditions. If you would like to learn more about the acute onset of pre-existing conditions please click the hyperlink. You can run a quote in the Visitors to U.S.A. section of the website to see what plans are available. If you have any additional questions please let us know.
