Q:health insurance?? Dear Madam/Sir Good Day I'm a physician from the Kingdom of Jordan/Middle east . I have been Accepted to do a fellowship training at the Mountsinai hospital in NY. One of requirements for applying for the F1 VISA is to send them a proof of life insurance in the USA during my period of training which is from April-October 2011 Is it possible I apply for health insurance online while I'm living in the Jordan??? Thanks for your help looking forward to hear from you

A:
Yes, it is certainly possible. You can buy it online at International Student Medical Insurance. sorry for the many questions but i tried to purchase the (STUDY USA PLANE A) BUT when i'm filling the application it states that i should: 1 put an address.......is this must be in usa?? 2 i have to click on the choice that states i'm a registered student at usa : the problem is i'm still not registered at the mountsinai school of medicine and neither i'm physically present now in usa so how could i purchase the insurance in advance , what do you recommed to put in the fields?? thnx for your help If you are not taking full time classes in an university, even if you are on F1 visa, you can NOT buy student insurance. You will have to just buy the travel medical insurance. And you can buy that at / Those plans do not ask you to fill US address. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thnx for your reply please bare with me this extra question , i'm a doctor and my study involves clinical training at mountsinai university hospital and its affiliated clinics it involve daily training during my six month period . so does this considered as full time classes or what?? , i'm little confused as they just asked for me to apply for health insurance and send it with my documents i would be grateful if you could guide me with my best regards zeyad No, that is not considered full time classes in an university

Q:visitor's insurance My mother is visiting for 2 months and 8 days starting in a week. She has arthritis, but otherwise is healthy. no bp, diabetes or any other known ailment. What insurance would you suggest?

A:
Thank you for your interest in purchasing visitors insurance for your mother. You can consider purchasing Atlas America Insurance. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at any time. Is arthritis considered a preexisting condition? Yes. But exactly what does that mean. my mother is 73. She is in good health. For arthritis she takes pain medicine and some osteobiflex etc. So the insurance is for any unseen health issue, emergency treatment, accident etc. so how is arthritis a preexisting for any emergency treatment? would appreciate your patience. thanks, Any medical conditions that exist before the effective date of the policy are considered pre-existing conditions. Therefore, any expenses related to arthiritis will NOT be covered. However, if she gets into any new medical conditions, injuries or accidents that occur after the effective date of the policy, that is what the insurance would be useful for.

Q:Maternity Insurance Wait Period I am currently in US in dependent Visa. I do not have any insurance yet since I will be traveling back to home country in 2 months for 6 months. If we plan to conceive when I am here (in a month) and deliver the baby in US, what isurance policy would be good? My husband is in H1B and I am in H4. I heard maternity and baby coverage case is treated different in Insurance policy. Do I need to get insured before a long period that we conceive? What is the wait time? Can I get insured at least before getting pregnantMy husband has ongoing insurance coverage from past 5 years. I am looking for some full coverage. Please suggest.

A:
There is no such individiual insurance. Inquire at your husband's work place if they can enroll in their group health insurance that would meet your requirements. If I decide to wait for some time: 1.What is the minimal duration of wait period? 2. Can I get an insurance separately, if my husband's company does not have any facility to include dependants? Thank you. There is no such insurance.

Q:Tax deduction for parents health insurance Hello, This year my parents are visiting me for 6 months and I have purchased health insurance for them. Are the premium paid for my parent's insurance tax deductible. I am a permanent resident and my parents are on visitor visa.

A:
We are not tax professionals and therefore, can not give any tax related advice. Please check with your accountant for complete details. However, as far as I understand, the health insurance premiums are deductible only to the extent they are above 7.5% of your gross annual income.

Q:Visitors Insurance Plan with least frivolous claims denials Thanks for a nicely updated forum and website with detailed FAQs, etc. My parents (62 and 57 yrs old) are relatively healthy for their age no heart problems, kidney issues, no diabetes or blood pressure issues. However, I want comprehensive insurance for them. After research, my concerns are 1. Atlas America appears to be of more value, but being based in Bermuda (even if only for tax purposes), it is hard for my state's insurance comissioner to seek action in case of a lawsuit. What do you think 2. You being an insurance broker who works for us and not the insurance companies, what company (in your experience) hasn't been frivolously denying claims (note I said frivolously, because I know that some claims will be denied as they are legitimately preexisting conditions, or due to the covered individuals engaging in risky activity, etc.) Thanks.

A:
1. There is some misunderstanding. Atlas America is administered by HCCMIS, which is based in Indianapolis, IN, USA. HCCMIS would handle all the claims and they would be subject to Indiana jurisdiction. HCCMIS's parent company is HCC Life Insurance Company, which is based in Houston, TX, USA. 2. All companies that we work with, at least for visitors insurance purposes, are more or less equivalent in that aspect. The real differences are what you see clearly in our side by side comparison. There are really no frivolous claim denials, but mismatch between what people expected (mostly incorrectly) and what the insurance actually covers. I hope that answers your questions. If you have any other questions, please feel free to post them here or contact us at any time. i feel that you should be able to rate customer service based on your several years of experience. You are the one who see all the concerns and compliments from customers like us. Saying that all of them are more of the same really implies that stay away from all of them. I posted my feedback about Atlas America before reading this post. We very very rarely hear compliments from anyone, because when everything is going good, people assume that is how it should work and never bother to come back and let us know about it. Unfortunate, but true. Based on my many years of experience, if I really feel that most of them are more or less equivalent, how can I write anything different? In fact, three major companies in the visitors insurance business are located in the same city, Indianapolis, IN. They hire the staff from the same resource pool, and for various historic reasons, they follow pretty much similar procedures because all 3 of them had some or other connection with others at one point in the past. I read your other post. As I suggested over there, I strongly suggest that you read everything at /international-health-insurance-claims/ to understand the process. Visitors insurance does NOT work the same way your domestic group health insurance through your employer may work, that you may be used to dealing with. Every company needs to follow the proper procedure (and there are valid reasons for that), and all the visitors insurance companies (at least the ones that we work with, here in the U.S.) work more or less based on a similar procedure and similar criteria. Therefore, no matter which plan you buy from whichever company, the procedure is going to be more or less similar. That is why we are able to write generic articles on a claim process etc. If you are looking for an insurance that does not ask you any questions, does not question about anything, no paper work and pays all your bills, never denies your claim, unfortunately, it does not exist. One person says a particular company X is bad because he didn't like the way his claim was handled. However, before coming to generic conclusion, we are not keeping in mind a few things: * We are ignoring numerous other claims that were processed to the satisfaction and none of them ever bothered to report the positive experience. * How do you know that another company would not have done the same thing? How do you know it was not the appropriate thing to do for the insurance company? I know that because I work with various companies on a daily basis. Yet another person says company Y is bad because of so and so. Yet another person says company Z is bad because of so and so. At the end of the day, all the companies seem to be bad, which is certainly not the case. Of course, you will have to buy the insurance from the companies that exist in the market, and not outside. Therefore, you have two options: * Set the expectations right. * Stay away from buying anything, because none of the plans in the entire market are going to work for you. That is because you want to buy something that does not exist. I hope that clarifies. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us at any time or post them here.

Q:IMG Global - beware of its pre-existing clause! My recent experience with IMG global - Patriot America turned out to be a financial nightmare. I had purchased this for my mother who was visiting from India. She fell seriously ill while she was here, with an unexpected illness which had NEVER MANIFESTED, NEVER TREATED, NEVER DIAGONIZED before. The Emergency room & hospitalization expenses were close to $100,000/- Subsequently, IMG global DENIED benefits for these expenses based on their PRE-EXISTING clause (quoted below), claiming that although this illness did not manifest itself any time earlier, it has existed prior to the purchase of IMG insurance. Thus the pre-existing clause gave IMG complete authority to deny benefits at their own discretion for an illness that my mother never had before. Anytime an insurance gives itself such broad powers to deny benefits to its customers, it is a RED FLAG & SHOULD BE AVOIDED. "A Pre-existing Condition is* defined as any injury, illness, sickness, disease, or other physical, medical, mental or nervous condition, disorder or ailment that, with reasonable medical certainty, existed at the time of application or at any time during the three years prior to the effective date of the insurance, whether or not previously manifested or symptomatic, diagnosed, treated, or disclosed prior to the effective date, including any subsequent, chronic or recurring complications or consequences related thereto or arising therefrom."

A:
I am sorry to hear that you are having difficulty with the claims and I hope that your mother gets well soon. You have not specified any details regarding the illness and therefore it is very difficult to make generic comments whether they acted appropriately or not. I suggest that you immediately contact our office and we would be glad to help you through this matter. Dear Sir, I was incidentally able to locate you from the user registration email address you used. It was nice talking to you. As we discussed, you have already filed the appeal and your claim was already sent to independent third party and it was still denied. I believe you have already done what could possibly done to deal with this. I beileve that, the conclusion of our around half an hour long discussion was, that when you buy visitors insurance for your relatives visiting the U.S., you can reduce the risk to some extent by buying the insurance, but you can not completely eliminate it. It is certainly possible that some medical expenses you may run into are not covered because of pre-existing conditions, and unfortunately, there is no better solution to this problem. As we discussed, the pre-existing conditions exclusion clause is pretty much, more or less, the same in all companies that offer visitors insurance. Therefore, I believe that, the message is that every host should evaluate such risk before inviting their parents, in-laws or any other relatives to the U.S.
