Q:If you dont have any joint problems before but you started having joint pains and swelling now and want to get evaluated for that, will travel insurance cover for the diagnostic tests related to it? Like tests for rheumatoid arthritis. Thanks.

A:
Travel medical insurance or plans for visitors, provide coverage for new illnesses and new injuries that are contracted after the effective date. If you do not currently have a plan, there is not a plan you could purchase that would provide that type of coverage. If you do already have a plan, then it would depend on the medical report provided by the attending physician. If it is determined that whatever is causing the pain was already present in the body before the effective date of the policy, regardless of when someone became symptomatic, it would not be covered. If you have any additional questions please let us know.

Q:I am running out my prescription, what should I do?

A:
If it for prescription medication that you were already taking before the plan had started it would not be covered under any plan on the market for visitors. Visitors plans are designed to cover any new illness or injuries that did not exist in the body before the effective date of the policy. No plans on the market will cover preventative care, routine maintenance, expected, or known treatment of any kind. Additionally, In general, plans are not going to cover for pre-existing conditions with the exception of the acute onset of a pre-existing condition available on some plans, and a plan called Visitors Protect can offer limited coverage for pre-existing conditions but must still be unexpected and purchased before the insured left their home country. Let us know if you have any questions.
