Q:ICICI - Stay away Please ensure that you stay away from ICICI for any business, and that includes ICICI's Travel Insurance. They are cheap in all respects. It's pure waste of money and time. You are never sure of anything with them. I am not going to do any business with ICICI and going to make sure none of my friends do. They may have become a big company but quality of service is abysmal. Their advertisement makes you believe that you are going to be OK, if not relaxed. They make big promises. However, they are liar and lack complete business ethics. They seem to contain people who are right from Government Bureaucratic area driven to fill their pockets without caring about the customers. Go to ICICI Lomabard and they say that you can extend the policy online when the policy is within the 30 days from expiration but that's not the case. This means you have to call horrible, completely untrained customer service. And, guess what, again they advertise about their Travel Policies, saying all good things including the policy can be extended online. It can be only be extended by phone though. I needed to extend for 11 days because at buying he policy they let you buy only for 180 days and my parents were here for a little more than that and I needed to extend for 11 days. They charged my Credit Card and said it's renewed, but however it still says "Endorsement Pending". My Parents are back in India and I feel I paid Rs 3000 for nothing. That's my personal experience, including one previous case, and I want to take sometime to help other by writing this post that others don't suffer. Just Don't ever think of ICICI. You may think that the policies are cheap but the returns are even cheaper. They are very cheap and once you have to go through their customer service, you will realize how cheap they are. I am not saying it's representatives' fault, its just that they seem to have hardly gone through any training. It seems ICICI's management do not care about the quality of Customer Service Infrastructure completely.

Q:Coris Heritage Claim nightmare Hi, My story is pretty much like many others, but I want one specific advice. 1) My mom and dad visited me and they got insurance from Coris, Heritage-Mumbai & The Oriental Insurance company (Coris is the claim processing agent in US, not sure how are Heritage & Oriental related here). 2) We had a car accident where my mom was badly injured had to be provided emergency service (the bill so far is about $15k) thats my situation. I called up Coris (they where pretty responsive), here is what they asked me to get before they can get started with claim filing process:- 1) Get the police report (they charge to provide a copy & you need to send authorization letter if its other then the subject asking for it) 2) Get medical report (this take really long time and its a huge report so it cant be faxes) I took me about 2 months get all the above documents (Govt departments a same every I guess, except people here are not rude). moving on... Its been 3 months I have sent the documents to Coris (and they hopefully forwarded to Insurance company) and the only thing I get in response from them when I ask for status is "we have not heard from the insurance company yet, we will respond as soon as we hear from them". So my question is:- 1 is there a minimum time by which they are suppose to respond? (I cant wait forever for some dumb insurance guy in India to process my claim) 2 since mine is a accident case, is there any reason for them to reject the claim? Thanks in advance.

A:
As we don't offer any insurance from India, I am not sure of the exact relationship within the companies that you mentioned. However, from what I know, Oriental is the actual insurance company that does claims processing. Coris USA is the company that collects the paperwork from you in the US for less than $500 and Coris France for more than $500 and sends it to Heritage in India. Or may be Coris India is called Heritage. And in turn they send it to Oriental for processing the claim. There could be a little discrepancy in this explanation but in concept, that is how it is supposed to work on a high level. Coming back to your questions: 1. I don't think so. 2. Generally it should not be, but it is really difficult to say. I don't know what kind of rules & regulations they have over there. Overall, it is always better to buy the insurance from US based companies. It is better in all aspects. Please read /visitors-insurance-usa-india-comparison/ to understand the differences between buying from US vs India to understand it more. I hope that helps. If you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here or contact us at any time.

Q:Visitor Coverage, already have Medicare A My father is already covered by Medicare Part A, and is visiting me in the US next month. I understand that hospital fees are covered by Medicare, but professional charges (physician's fees) are not. Will he get a discount on the visitor insurance policy because of the existing coverage? Does he need visitor insurance at all?

A:
He is not eligible to purchase visitors insurance. He should consider buying Medicare Part B, Part D and medicare suppliment insurance. I read through the terms for Patriot America insurance, I saw nothing about disqualification if he already has Medicare - can you clarify? We have no reason to give you wrong advice, even that means turning business away. Insurance is just a piece of paper until you need to use it. Therefore, you need to buy the plan that you are eligible for. All the visitors insurance plans have one common fundamental rule: They are sold on surplus lines basis. That means, only those who are not eligible for any domestic insurance (that includes Medicare etc.) can buy that insurance. If the person has Medicare, that person must either be US citizen or be US resident. Please look at the brochure of Patriot America. It says that persons traveling outside home country are eligible for coverage. And this person's home country is the US and therefore can't get coverage in the US. I hope that clarifies. If you have any other questions, please feel free to post them here or contact us at any time.

Q:treatment Hi, I recently got insurance(inbound USA - plan A - $50,000) for my wife who is on h4 visa from india. i would like to know 1) whether tht covers any dental, eye treatments. 2) how much it would roughly cover for treatment like appendicitis. I am guessing that this would be possible to tell based on anyone's previous experience..just a rough number should be ok. Please let me know as this would be very useful. regards pragan.

A:
1. No. 2. It would pay for any new medical conditions, injuries or accidents that may occur after the effective date of the policy. It will pay according to the schedule of benefits listed at /safe-travels-elite/travel-insurance/

Q:Questions on Visitor Medical Insurance Greetings to All If anyone has any inputs related to the below, please let me know. 1) I am curious how a 'Pre existing condition' is determined, particularly for visitors when there is no track record of the visitor's medical history. Most visitor insurance policies are sold online with no request for medical certificates which can provide info on the visitor's 'existing medical condition'. 2) I think it will be nice if anyone has contacted a PPO/hospital customer care & ask them directly which insurance would they accept for billing the insurance company directly. Has anyone tried this? I wish to try this soon, but I am not sure if any such customer care would be willing to answer these queries with patience. No harm in trying though... 3) I read that Atlas America participates in 2 PPOs (Hygeia & First Health). Does this mean that they have the best network of hospitals who would accept their insurance for billing them directly? (I didnt see any other Insurance which participates in both these PPOs). Apologies if I had asked anything really 'silly'. I am exploring the best possible visitor insurance to buy & these are some questions that popped up. Thanks to anyone who replies. Have a good one. Cheers Blitzy.

A:
1. Visitors insurance are not medical underwritten plans. Therefore, no medical information is asked in advance. Please read /visitor-medical-insurance-pre-existing-conditions/ for complete information. 2. Please look at /visitor-insurance/ Next to most of the plans, you will see a link 'Provider Directory'. Before you actually search the providers there, please read few paragraphs given there. That would give you good understanding. 3. Yes, it is a good network. Actually, in reality, the network is a combination of Hygeia and First Health. Therefore, some providers may be directly contracted with Hygeia while others may be indirectly contracted with Hygeia through First Health. Therefore, you look at the providers in the network here, and as long as they participate either in Hygeia or First Health, you are good. I hope that answers your questions. If you have any other questions, please feel free to post them here or contact us at any time.

Q:Visitor Insurance for Parents Hello, I would like to get an advise of which option is preferred to get the Visitor Insurance for my parents , my dad is around 66 and mom is around 54 and dad has BP / Diabetes and mom has Diabetes ... they just need to have medicines in regular basis but we can get all of them from india but i would like to prefer to take an insurance kindly suggest which option is preffered I think i need to go with Comprehensive that is what people told me but which company i need to go with please suggest -Srinivas

A:
I recommend Atlas America, provided at /atlasamerica-insurance/ as it covers up to $15,000 in acute onset of pre-existing conditions for persons age below 70 years. I will contact u soon on this Srinivas I would like to purchase Atlas America from InsuBUY 1) can i initially purchase it for 3 months oct 16 2009, jan 16,2010 2) Once they are in USA based on the I 94 date etc , can i move it to 6 months 3) They will stay for some time in IL and some time in CA IS THAT ok if we purchase this Atlas plan 4) Can i get your email id (official ) so that i can send you the details etc so that I can buy this plan Or do you suggest me to buy the plan online from your website? -Srinivas 1. Yes. 2. You can renew it for another 3 months ($5 renewal fee). 3.info insubuy.com 4. You can buy it either on this web site or you can call us. It is identical procedure either way. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us at any time or post them here. I have a question If a person has BP and they have taken Atlas america insurance and they do have acute onset of pre-existing conditions and say the person got some health issue after coming to USA and if the doctors said that it is because of the BP that the person had earlier ... then will Atlas cover that if the amount is < $ 150000 If no.. please explain in more detail what is acute onset of pre-existing conditions Thanks Srinivas Acute Onset of a Pre-Existing Condition: If you are under age 70, you are covered for an Acute Onset of a Pre-existing Condition. Coverage is available up to $15,000 Maximum for Eligible Medical Expenses and up to $25,000 for Emergency Medical Evacuation. An Acute Onset of a Pre-existing Condition is a sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence of a Pre-existing Condition which occurs spontaneously and without advance warning either in the form of Physician recommendations or symptoms. Treatment must be obtained within 24 hours of the sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence. I am not really understanding the technical wording that are sending me over and over ... i see that in the brochure as well In my above Scenario will the insurance cover or do not cover.. just "Yes" or "No" If No , i will still take insurance with you but with some other rather than this ATLAS insurance -Srinivas Unfortunately, I can't give "Yes" or "No" answer to any hypothical question. (Not just me, no one, even at the insurance company, is allowed to give answers like that in advance.) Why is that? This is why: According to the definition I provided in my earlier post, it is determined by the claims department based on the medical records and the doctors opinion whether something is an acute onset of pre-existing condition or not. And until that happens and medical records are already available for that particular matter, it is not possible for anyone to judge in advance whether something is an acute onset of pre-existing condition or not, as there is no basis for it. Believe me, I am in the same situation just like any of you whenever my relatives visit the USA. I just can't know in advance for sure whether a particular claim would be covered or not, because it all depends upon the medical records. this insurance looks something odd to me i want to think about it anyways in some other post i read that u had rated all the insurance based on users feedback can u pls provide me the link if u can srinivas 1. That is how all the visitors insurance plan work, not just a particular one. Of course, it is up to you. We, as a broker, work for you and provide insurance from all major companies in the US that offer such insurance. 2. I don't think I have ever done that. Could you please tell me where did you see anything like that? By the way, if it gives you any confidence: My parents are currently visiting me for past three weeks, and I have purchased Atlas America for them. Just don't buy Insurance from ICICI. I bought the insurance and it's really frustrating experience. They say and advertise one thing and do something completely different things. They keep flashing the policies can be renewed online but I had to call horrible customer service in India, which kept getting disconnected, and after a total of 5 attempts and in all cases explaining the scenario from the scratch to each of those representative, in over an hour, I have been able to get the policies extended and that too I had to provide credit card info. All, I can tell you is that ICICI is really horrible company to do business with. One of my earlier experience too has not been good too. Any celebrities (like Shahrukh Khan) should think twice before endorsing ICICI. It's very frustrating for the actual users. Just don't buy Insurance from ICICI.
