Q:Hi I currently have health insurance in the US through my employer. I plan to study in Spain and will be unemployed in that period. I'll purchase private insurance for Spain. Please advise if I need health insurance in US also for this period when I'm not living in the US. If I return to US or need virtual assistance from doctors in the US, please clarify how to make sure any minimums needed by ACA are met.

A:
We do not offer ACA compliant health insurance so we are unable to advise on what may be required of you. It would be recommended to reach out to a tax specialist for that information. We do offer a plan that can cover a US citizen temporarily visiting the US call Patriot America Plus. This plan can offer coverage for any new injuries or illnesses that did not exist in the body before the effective date of the policy. It will not cover preventative care or routine maintenance of any kind, and it will not cover pre-existing conditions with the exception of the acute onset of pre-existing condition. If you have any additional questions please let us know.

Q:If people who are visiting to USA have diabetes and blood pressure from past few years. and they took an insurance that has Acute Onset of Pre-existing conditions, and later after few days if they got any issue related to diabetes or blood pressure, will the insurance cover???Also they will need to take insulin on regular basis, can the plan cover the medical expense?Plans considered: Safe Travel Elite, Patriot America PlusPlease do suggest a better plan

A:
Visitors Protect is the only plan that offers coverage for pre-existing conditions for visitors, but it still cannot be known, expected, or routine treatment, so insulin and regular check ups would not be covered under any plan. Patriot America Plus is recommended as it is a comprehensive plan and does offer the Acute onset of pre-existing conditions for ages under 70, but if you would like to learn more about the acute onset of pre-existing conditions please click the hyperlink. You can run a quote in the Visitors to U.S.A. section of the website to see what plans are available. If you have any additional questions please let us know.

Q:I went to see a doctor who's name appeared on the network search of my insurance. However, when I got there, the front desk told me that they had trouble verifying my insurance, and told me to pay upfront out of pocket first in order to receive treatment. They also told me that they sent a request to the insurance company and that if the insurance is verified, I would get my money back. Is that true? If so how can I check with the insurance company to see if they received the verification request from the doctor? How does the company notify me when money has been refunded back to me?

A:
If you have had to use the insurance, it is always recommended to reach out to the insurance company as soon as possible. The number to the claims department can be found on the back of your ID card. You can reach out to that number to check the status of a claim. If you need to file a claim your claim forms can be found in your MyAccount. If you have any additional questions please let us know.
