Q:My family are in the process of arranging to move to Utah for both of my daughters to undergo Oral Immuno Therapy to treat their allergic conditions. We are NOT expecting any insurer to pay for this treatment. We will be paying for the treatment course our selves. We have been applying for various traveller's insurance in Australia using our local major providers (such as Allianz international etc), however, I have not come across any traveller's insurance that will cover a claim "arising from" undergoing medical treatment in the USA. Most policies explicitly exclude this. Therefore, I am researching USA based providers. Can you please advise if there are any health insurance providers in the USA, that offer coverage for a claim that arises from undergoing elective medical treatment for a pre-existing condition? In my daughters' case it would be food allergies / anaphylaxis.

A:
Unfortunately, you will see this exclusion across all plans. The available plans for visitors in the US will also exclude this.

Q:I want to buy medical insurance for my parents (67, 66 years old) who are Indian citizens and traveling to Singapore for a month (Dec 18-Jan 16) Could you please help to clarify a few questions I have, so that I can buy the best suited plan for them by Monday, Dec 16. 1. I want a plan that covers pre-existing conditions and any hospitalization arising out of or in relation to the same. So any acute onset or life threatening medical situation. Cover to be policy max or at least 100,000 2. Policy cover of 300,000 - 500,000 and one time deductible of 250-300. 3. Any medical conditions that are excluded under the pre-existing list that we need to be aware of? My parents have well controlled conditions and both are on medication for cholesterol and diabetes. Please let me know the top three policies that are best suited for Singapore travel. Any other key differences or points to know about these policies to consider and make a decision at the earliest.

We would be glad to assist. The appropriate plans that can cover your parents during their travel would be located through this link. You can enter in their specific travel information, country of citizenship as well as their home country (where they have primary residence), and it will then show you all available plans. Most plans do not cover pre-existing conditions, preventative care, or routine maintenance, however, some of these plans will offer Acute onset benefits for pre-existing conditions. I have provided the information link here so that you can review the specifics of the acute onset benefit.

Q:My brother, father, and nephew will depart Harare by private 4x4 vehicle keeping to main roads on 01/02/20 travelling via Mozambique, Malawi, and Tanzania to Mount Kilimanjaro. They plan on trekking up Kilimanjaro starting 01/07/20 to summit and descending on 01/12/2020. Returning to Zimbabwe via Zambia arriving Harare 01/17/20. We would be glad to assist. Through this link, you can scroll to the bottom of the page and there will be an additional link for our USAway insurance plan. As you will read in the link provided, this plan can specifically cover for the Mt. Kilimanjaro Trek you are planning. You will be able to get quotes through the plan information link as well. Because it appears each person may need different dates of coverage, you would just do individual quotes/ plans for each person.
